Rollins Splits Doubleheader with Barry, Wins Second SSC Series

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 18, 2007) ' The Rollins baseball team split a doubleheader against Sunshine State Conference opponent Barry University at Alfond Stadium on Sunday, dropping the first game 7-5 and winning the second 4-3.' The Tars came away with their second straight conference series win to open SSC play.' Rollins now stands at 19-10 overall and 4-2 in conference, and Barry leaves with a record of 16-12, 2-4.

Rollins' Game One starter Jon Wano (4-2) surrendered five runs in two and one third innings on his way to the loss.' Junior first baseman Stefano Foggi and sophomore designated hitter Anthony Soto led the Tars lineup with two hits apiece, and Foggi drove in two of Rollins' five runs.' Barry scored seven unanswered runs to open the game, but Rollins started to come back in the bottom of the fourth with two runs on RBI singles by Foggi and sophomore catcher Eugene Martinez.' The Tars came back in the next inning with RBI singles from Foggi and sophomore right fielder Jesse More, and Soto drove in another in the sixth to narrow the deficit to two.' Barry starter David Bernat (5-0) gave up five runs through five innings for the win, and Bobby Hernandez pitched the final one and one third innings for his sixth save of the year.

Freshman starter Marc Hewett (2-2) pitched all seven innings in Game Two, giving up three runs on seven hits for the complete game win.' With the game tied at three in the bottom of the seventh, junior center fielder Corey Whiting singled to lead off the inning.' Junior left fielder Mike Crane then hit into a fielder's choice, and he advanced to third on a single by Soto.' Freshman right fielder Phil Hendricks drove one over the left fielder's outstretched glove to bring home the winning run, giving Rollins the series win.' Barry starter Ray Rhoads (0-2) pitched a complete game in the loss, giving up four runs on 11 hits and three walks.

The Tars will be on the road for their next SSC series, as they travel to Melbourne, Fla. to face Florida Tech for the opening game on Friday, March 23.' First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., and fans can listen to all the action live on the Tars Sports Network at www.RollinsSports.com.
