No. 20 Rollins Outshines Cal Poly Pomona 9-0

POMONA, Calif. (March 12, 2007) ' The Rollins women's tennis team continued to roll with a win over the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos 9-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Kellogg Tennis Complex. The Tars have now won four straight matches.

All three Tars doubles teams dominated their competition decisively. Tasi Purcell and Marnie Mahler trounced Jenny Tsai and Renee Paquillo in No. 1 doubles 8-3. Sonia Bernal and Allison Arof downed Kara Fisher and AnnikaYou at No. 2 doubles, 8-4, and Silvia Frandji and Anastasiya Shevchenko took out Ellyn Caprara' and Erica Lin at No. 3 doubles 8-4.

Cal Poly Pomona (3-7) dropped five of the six singles contests in straight sets. Cal Poly Pomona had its best chance for a point at No. 6 singles, where Kelley Wong lost in three sets to Mai-Han Nguyen, 2-6, 7-5 (10-6).

At No. 1 singles to Purcell dominated Tsai 6-2, 6-1, while Mahler defeated Paquillo 6-1, 6-1 in the second seed. Bernal outlasted Fisher at No. 3 singles 7-6, 6-1 and Shevchenko routed You at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Frandji crushed Brady at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-1.

The Tars (9-1) will be back in action on March 13 when they take on UC-San Diego (7-3) at 2:00 p.m.
