PENSACOLA, Fla. (February 9, 2007) ' Sophomore hurler Nicole Anderson pitched a shutout in the opener, but the Tars couldn't complete the sweep in the night cap and opened 2007 with a split against Delta State. Rollins defeated the Lady Statesmen 3-0 in game one and dropped a heartbreaking, nine inning 4-3 decision in game two. The doubleheader kicked off play at the Gulf South/Sunshine State Crossover, hosted by West Florida in Pensacola.

Anderson scattered five hits in seven innings while not surrendering a walk and striking out 15 for the game one shutout. Rachel Almengaul provided the big bat, going 3-4 on the night. Newcomer Sherri Rabenold knocked in a run with an RBI double, stole two bases and also crossed the plate twice.

The Tars scored two in the top of the first as Devon Kontos led off with a single and scored on the Rabenold double, who later stole third and crossed the plate after an error. Rollins manufactured another run in the seventh as Rabenold drew a lead-off walk, stole second and was bunted home by Almengaul.

Stacy Sanders went 2-5 with two RBI in game two while Rabenold was 2-5 with two runs scored to lead the Tars attack. Anderson came on in relief of Ingrid Schumacher and suffered the loss, allowing one hit and one unearned run, while fanning five in three innings of work. Schumacher surrendered seven hits and three runs with seven strikeouts.

The Tars again jumped ahead early, plating one in the bottom of the first as Rabenold singled and scored on a Sanders sac fly. Two more runs came in the bottom of the third as Almengaul singled in Rabenold and Sanders doubled in Almengaul for a 3-0 Tars lead. Delta State knotted the score in the fourth and the stalemate lasted through the seventh to set up extra innings. The Lady Statesmen scored in the top of the ninth on an error to take a one-run lead. Rollins loaded the bases with two outs in their half of the frame, but weren't able to capitalize and fell 4-3.

Rollins will compete in day two of the GSC/SSC Crossover on Saturday, February 9 with a doubleheader against Alabama-Huntsville. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST.
