Rollins Demonstrates Dominance By Blanking Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. (February 9, 2007) ' All six players on the No. 21 Rollins women's tennis team were able to notch wins over Saint Leo by defeating the Lions 9-0 on Friday afternoon.

Rollins recorded victories in all three doubles matches. Tasi Purcell and Marnie Mahler picked up their second straight win, downing Asmaa Tazi and Taylor Cleaves 8-1 in the No. 1 match. Allison Arof and Sonia Bernal teamed to defeat Teresa Bonano and Gina Schifano 8-6 in the No. 2 match, while Silvia Frandji and Anastasiya Shevchenko took Lara King and Hannah Beard 8-1 in the No. 3 position.

The Tars kept rolling right through singles play, winning all six matches easily. Purcell took Tazi 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 match, and Mahler improved to 2-0 from the No. 2 position, defeating Schifano 6-0, 6-1. Bernal followed suit with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bonano. Shevchenko, in the No. 4 spot, surpassed Cleaves handily 6-2, 6-1. Frandji made easy work of King 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 slot with Arof scoring a 6-2, 6-3 win over Beard in No. 6 singles.

Rollins will be back in action on Tuesday, February 13 when they travel to Melbourne, Fla. to take on the Florida Tech Panthers at 2:30 p.m.
