WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 7, 2007) - The
Rollins women's basketball team lost a hard-fought game against
their conference rival University of Tampa Spartans 60-54 Wednesday
night at Warden Arena. The Tars previously defeated the Spartans
this season 55-43 on December 2.
Leading the way for the Tars (17-5, 8-3) was guard Jennifer Dyer
who notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds on the
night. Freshman Jessica Pressley had another stellar game with 11
points and two assists going three of six from behind the arc.
Defensively, sophomore transfer Ines Teuma grabbed seven rebounds
and added six points for the Tars.
The Spartans (17-6, 9-3) bolted out to a 17 point lead at the
nine minute mark, 27-10. Rollins attempted a comeback before the
half, but Tampa was too strong inside beating the Tars 14 to six in
points in the paint. The Spartans took a 14 point lead into the
locker room at the half, 36-22.
Coming into the second half with renewed momentum, Rollins cut
the Spartan's lead to three with 14 minutes remaining, 40-37.
Tampa's offense refused to back down with forwards Alexa Kane and
Erica Woodard totaling a combined 14 points in the second half,
giving their team a solid eight point lead with five minutes to go.
Rollins would only score eight more points in the half as the
Spartans routed the Tars on their home turf, 60-54.
Three Spartan players scored in double-digits as Kane tallied a
game-high 16 points with nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Woodard added 14 points going 71.4 percent from the field and 57.1
percent from the charity stripe and forward Sheena Walton tossed in
11 more points for the Spartans.
Rollins will be back in action on Saturday, February 10 when
they take on the Lynn Fighting Knights (13-9, 5-6) in the friendly
confines of Warden Arena at 2:00 p.m. Tune into the action live at
