FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (February 3, 2007) ' The
Rollins College women's basketball team came out on top against the
Nova Southeastern Sharks 67-58 on Saturday evening at the
University Center.
Rollins (17-4, 8-2) was led by senior forward Larissa McDonough
who notched a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. She
also shot eight of 10 from the charity stripe. Guard Jessica Barker
added 11 points and three rebounds, while Jennifer Dyer had 10
points and eight rebounds.
In the first half, the Tars' offense was cold as they were only
nine of 25 from the field and 1-6 from behind the arc. Both
McDonough and Pressley notched five points before halftime. Barker
and Kirkwood added four points a piece as the Tars went into the
locker room down 31-26 to the Sharks.
Nova led Rollins for the first eight minutes of the second half,
but guard Jessica Pressley ended the Sharks dominance by knocking
down a three pointer to put Rollins up by two 42-40. Rollins
maintained that steady lead for the rest of the game, eventually
defeating Nova 67-58.
Rollins overcame Nova in every scoring category in the second
half. The Tars led in points in the paint 12-10, points off of
turnovers 12-10, second chance points 14-9, fast break points 4-2
and points off the bench 9-2.
The Sharks (7-15, 5-6) were led by forward Jennifer Havens who
tallied 17 points'and shot 50 percent from the field and 87.5
percent from the free throw line. Guard Tia Evenson totaled 15
points with three assists and two steals.
Rollins will be back in Sunshine State Conference action against
the University of Tampa Spartans on Wednesday, February 7 at 5:30
