DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 28, 2007) '
Rollins dropped'one doubles match, but swept through singles to
post an 8-1'victory over Embry-Riddle in non-conference women's
tennis action. The win moves the Tars record to 4-0 while the
Eagles fall to 3-4.
Marnie Mahler and Tasi Purcell, the 18th ranked tandem in
Division II,'rolled past'Natalie Anaya and Lindsay Kurtz at No. 1
doubles, 8-0 while Hana Im and Kerrin Meisenbach beat Sonia Bernal
and Allison Arof 8-4 at No. 2. Rollins'picked up another doubles
point at the'No. 3 position as Anastasiya Shevchenko and Silvia
Frandji stayed undefeated on the year with an 8-1 win over Marga
Rico-Jimenez and Anna Haller.
Rollins sealed up the match early and took each of the six
singles points.'In a battle between top-10 ranked players in their
respective divisions, Purcell (No. 10, NCAA Division II) cruised
past Im (No. 9, NAIA) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 to take the No. 1
singles match. Mahler won the No. 2 position with a 6-2, 6-3 win
over Anaya, the 28th ranked player in NAIA. Bernal dropped the
first set 6-7(5), but won the second 6-4 and took the tie breaker
10-4 at No. 3 while Shevchenko took Meisenbach 7-5, 6-4 at the No.
4 position. Frandji scored a 6-1, 6-1 win over Rico-Jimenez and
Mia-Han Nguyen downed Sara Abraul 1-6, 6-3, 10-8 in the No. 6
position.
The Rollins women's tennis team will be back in action on
Friday, March 2 at home against Presbyterian. Players are set to
hit the courts at 3:30 p.m.
