WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 2, 2007) ' The Rollins
women's tennis team continued on their winning ways notching an
impressive victory over the 34th ranked Presbyterian College 7-2 on
Saturday afternoon at the Bert W. Martin Tennis Complex. With the
win, Rollins record now stands at 5-0, while Presbyterian College
falls to 3-2 on the season.
In doubles action, the Tars swept all three matches
convincingly. The 18th ranked duo of Tasi Purcell and Marnie Mahler
rallied past Catherine Bankhead and Abby Diminich 8-6 in the No. 1
spot. Sonia Bernal and Allison Arof rolled past Brittany Lanford
and Lisa Moyer 8-3 in the second seed. In the No. 3 match, Silvia
Frandji and Anastasiya Shevchenko brought their doubles record to
5-0 with a win over Lauren Brown and Virginia Waldron 8-4.
In No. 1 singles, 10th ranked Purcell blanked Bankhead 6-0, 6-0,
as No. 2 player Mahler dictated her match over Brown 6-1, 6-3.
Bernal had no trouble taking out Moyer 6-3, 6-4 in the third seeded
match, while Shevchenko didn't fare as well in the fourth position
against Diminich, losing 7-5, 6-4. Frandji defeated Kari Fuller
effortlessly 6-3, 6-3 in No. 5 singles, and Mai-Han Nguyen lost her
first match this season to Presbyterian's Lanford 6-2, 6-2.
The Rollins (5-0, 1-0) women's tennis team will hit the courts
again on Sunday, March 4 at home when they take on conference rival
the Nova Southeastern Sharks (6-0, 2-0) at 11:00 a.m.
