Embry-Riddle Shocks No. 17 Rollins 9-0 At Home

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 27, 2007) ' The 17th ranked Rollins men's tennis team was stunned by the Embry-Riddle Eagles 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

The No. 1 doubles team of Jonathan Gomez and Gustavo Carvalho suffered their second loss of the season against Konstantin Lazarov and Mislav Hizak 8-3. Pablo Seijo and Michael Schwartz fell to Carlos Bes and Istvan Bolgar 8-0 in the second spot. In the third seed match, Adrian Tan and Albin Hubscher lost at the hands of Tomoaki Yasuda and Luke Maricic 8-4.

Even after taking all three doubles matches, the Embry-Riddle Eagles didn't let up on the Tars in singles play. In No. 1 action, Tan was taken out by Hizak, the No. 1 player in the NAIA, 6-4, 6-0. Lazarov ran past Gomez 6-2, 6-1 in the second seed, and Seijo lost a hard-fought match against Bes 7-6 (3), 6-3 in No. 3 singles. After falling in the first set 6-4 and down 1-0 in the second, fourth seed Carvalho was forced to retire with knee pain. No. 5 Hubscher was outdone by Bolgar 6-0, 6-0, while Schwartz dropped against Maricic 6-3, 6-3 in No. 6 action.

Rollins (4-1) will be back in action on Monday, March 5 when they take on Concordia (N.Y.) at 2:00 p.m. on the courts of the Bert W. Martin Tennis Complex.
