WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 21, 2007) ' In
their final game at Warden Arena this season, the Rollins College
Tars rallied past the Florida Tech Panthers 70-68. Seniors Isaac
Codrey, Jordan Kolosey, Jon Smith, John Thinnes and Deon Troupe
were honored before the game, and they all started for the Tars
(21-5, 12-3) in their last home stand.
Sophomore Craig Reichel led the Tars with 20 points and three
rebounds going 9-12 from the floor. Junior Jonny Reibel notched his
1,000 point, totaling eight on the night and a career-high 12
assists for Rollins. Thinnes scored 10 points, shooting 40 percent
from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc, while sophomore
Kevin Hogan tallied nine points.
In the first half, the Tars jumped out to a six point lead at
the 14-minute mark, but the Panthers clawed their way back into it
and with five minutes left, Rollins only led Florida Tech by two.
With one second left on the clock, Reibel tossed up a jump shot at
the buzzer to tie the score going into the half (35-35).
The Rollins bench outscored Florida Tech's 20-12 in the first
half, but the Tars and Panthers were even with 12 points each in
the paint.
Going into the second half, the Panthers kept it close, trading
shot for shot with the Tars. After six ties and nine lead changes,
the scoreboard read 68-68 with 30 seconds remaining. A missed free
throw shot by Reibel followed by a crucial offensive rebound by
Kolosey, gave the ball back to Rollins. With two seconds left,
Reichel shot a lay-up to win the game for the Tars (70-68).
Guard E.J. Murray led the Panthers (8-20, 4-12) with 19 points
going 6-9 from the field, 5-7 from behind the arc and a perfect 2-2
from the charity stripe. Carl McNally notched 12 points and six
assists for Florida Tech.
In their final regular season game, Rollins will travel to Miami
Shores to take on conference rival Barry University (22-4, 13-2).
Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
