COLUMBIA, S.C. (February 17, 2007) ' The
Rollins College softball team defeated Benedict College 3-0 in the
first game of the doubleheader and 10-1 in the second game on
chilly Saturday afternoon at Pinehurst Park.
In Game One, the Tars (4-4)'were led by junior Ingrid Schumacher
who had the hot bat, going 3-3 with two RBI. Junior Rachel
Almengual went 1-4 with one run, and senior Stacy Sanders also
notched one run going 1-3. Sophomore pitcher Nicole Anderson evened
her record at 3-3, pitching a one-hitter in seven innings with 14
strikeouts.
Rollins offense really got going in game two, with Amanda
DeFilippo making a 3-3 showing with three RBI. In four trips to the
plate, Almengual went 2-4 with two RBI. Benedict attempted to forge
a comeback in the third inning, but outstanding playing in the
field would not allow it.
In Game Two, Schumacher allowed seven hits in five innings with
four strikeouts, earning her the win and bringing her record to
1-1.
Rollins will look to continue their winning ways when they
travel to the Eckerd College Invitational on Friday, February
23-25. They will begin the tournament on Friday against Palm Beach
Atlantic at 1:00 p.m.
