PENSACOLA, Fla. (February 11, 2007) ' Playing
their third doubleheader in as many days, the Rollins softball team
was swept by scores of 3-0 and 7-0 by the University of West
Florida on Sunday to conclude the Gulf South/Sunshine State
Conference Crossover.
Rachel Almengual led the Rollins bats, going 3-5 while Nicole
Anderson and Ingrid Schumacher suffered the losses in the
circle.
Rollins drops to 2-4 on the young season while the Argonauts
improve to 6-0.
In the opener, Rollins' bats never heated up as the Tars were
only able to record one hit in the 3-0 shutout. Rachel Almengaul
was plunked in the first inning and flared a single to center in
the seventh to represent Rollins' only base runner in the game.
Anderson suffered the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on
four hits with seven strikeouts.
Rollins offense started to get going in game two, but couldn't
build momentum and was again shutout, 7-0. The Argos blew the game
open in the second as they took advantage of two Tars errors and
plated five before tacking on runs in the fourth and fifth
innings.
Almengaul went 2-3 to lead Rollins at the plate in game two
while Sherri Rabenold produced a 2-4 evening. Ingrid Schumacher was
pinned with the loss, surrendering seven hits and seven runs, but
just two were earned. She also racked up five strikeouts.
Rollins will look to get back on track on Saturday, February 17
with a doubleheader at Benedict (S.C.). The first pitch for game
one is slated for 1 p.m.
