Tars Take Down Fighting Knights To Stay No. 1 In SSC

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 10, 2007) ' The Rollins men's basketball team got back on track with a huge win over conference rivals the Lynn Fighting Knights 93-71 on Saturday afternoon at Warden Arena. The Tars are 2-0 against Lynn this season.

Five players scored in double figures as Rollins (19-4, 10-2) routed Lynn. Leading the way was point guard Jonny Reibel who tallied 22 points and eight assists going eight of 11 from the charity stripe and 50 percent from long range. The next double-digit scorer was John Thinnes who notched 16 points and forward Isaac Codrey with 15 points, six assists and nine boards. Codrey also went six of seven from the field and was perfect from behind the arc and from the free throw line.

Sophomore center Craig Reichel added 12 points, two blocks and five rebounds, while Kevin Hogan chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and two assists for the Tars.

The Tars began the game in dominating fashion as they jumped out to an 11 point lead after only six minutes. Rollins controlled the first half, letting Lynn only get within three points, and Reibel scored 14 of his 22 total points before the halftime buzzer. Going into the locker room, the Tars led the Fighting Knights by a decisive 23 points, 50-27.

Rollins' bench outscored Lynn's 12-7 and the Tars also converted 17 points off of turnovers to the Fighting Knights four in the first half.

A layup from Reichel, followed by a three pointer from Thinnes, a layup by Codrey and a three pointer by Deon Troupe began the second half, giving the Tars a 25 point lead after four minutes, 61-36. Rollins continued to dominate Lynn throughout the entire second period and with one minute and 13 seconds left in the game, Reibel launched a three to guarantee smoothies from Tropical Smoothie Caf' for everyone. Guard Joseph Kuhlman fired an additional three pointer with 30 seconds left, and the Tars ended the game 93-71.

Lynn (14-9, 6-6) was led by forward Hans Schur who had 16 points and four rebounds, and guard Andrew Smith who notched 16 points going six of nine from the field. Darnell Kirkwood totaled 11 points going 83 percent from the floor.

The Tars be back in action on Wednesday, February 14 when they travel to Saint Leo (11-11, 4-7) to take on the Lions. Rollins previously defeated Saint Leo 70-57 on January 17. Tip-off is schedule for 7:30 p.m. Tune into the action live at Rollins College home on the web www.RollinsSports.com.
