TAMPA, Fla. (November 2, 2007) ' The Rollins
women's soccer team was bounced out of the Sunshine State
Conference Tournament after a 2-0 loss to top seeded Tampa on
Friday. The defeat puts Rollins at a final record of 10-8-1, while
the Spartans pull ahead to 15-2-2.
After a scoreless first half, the Spartans scored two goals
early in the second, and the Tars were unable to answer in the
waning moments.' Tampa's first goal was knocked in by Melissa
Barnard with an assist by Alison Penland, and was matched soon
after with a tally by Shelby Kuni assisted by both Emily Stack and
Brittney Evans.
The Tars were able to get off to a strong start, matching the
offensive and defensive prowess of UT.' Rollins had their chances
to get on the board in the first half as junior forward Lindsay
Giblin, the lone Rollins representative on
the'All-Tournament'Team,'sent a shot towards the frame in the 12th
minute that ricocheted off the crossbar and kept the Tars at bay.'
Rollins continued to attack throughout the game, with a final count
of 11 shots, but were held back by a strong Tampa defensive
unit.
Stina Lykke Petersen was stellar between the posts for the Tars,
saving nine shots while allowing the two goals in 90 minutes of
action. Her counterpart Shannon Aitken of Tampa earned the shutout
with two saves.
