LAKELAND, Fla. (October 9, 2007) ' The Rollins
women's soccer team defeated Sunshine State Conference rival
Florida Southern 2-1 on the road on Tuesday night.' The Tars
dropped the season opener to the Moccasins at home in
non-conference play, but with the SSC win tonight they improved to
7-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference.' Florida Southern dropped to
10-5, 4-2 with the loss.
Rollins received goals from its two co-captains, junior Lindsay
Giblin and senior Jeri Ostuw.' Giblin scored the first at the 11:20
mark off an assist by freshman midfielder Leah Hirsch, and Ostuw
put in the eventual game-winner 12 minutes later thanks to assists
by Giblin and freshman forward Jessica Deese.' Florida Southern's
only goal came on a penalty kick by Amy Clampitt-Holsenbeck in the
56th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Stina Lykke Petersen allowed just the
penalty kick goal and made five saves for the Tars, several of
which were from close range.' Sarah Furr saved two shots in goal
for the Moccasins.
Despite losing the game, Florida Southern led the shot count
10-7.' The Moccasins were also awarded four corner kicks to the
Tars' two.
Rollins will go on the road for a non-conference game at Flagler
