WINTER PARK, Fla.
(October 16, 2007) ' In its third consecutive overtime
game and fourth in the past five games, the Rollins men's soccer
team fought non-conference opponent Warner Southern to a 1-1 tie at
Barker Family Stadium on Tuesday night. The Tars now stand at 9-4-2
overall, while the Royals leave with a record of 11-1-1.
Warner Southern jumped out to a
1-0 lead 15 minutes into the game thanks to a goal by Pablo Cuevas.
He connected with Gary Swisher on a give-and-go play on the right
side, with Swisher finding Cuevas unmarked in front of the goal for
the open shot. The Tars tied the game at one just before halftime,
as freshman forward Zach Walker scored his first career goal.
Fellow freshman Bradley Welch dribbled through a crowd of Warner
Southern players in the right corner, and he found Walker in front
of the net for the one-touch shot.
In the first few minutes of the second half, Rollins was called for
a foul in the penalty area and the Royals were awarded a penalty
kick. Michel Rodriguez took the kick for Warner Southern with the
chance to give the Royals a lead, but his shot rocketed off the
right post for a miss.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Cummings saved four shots in goal for
the Tars, while his Warner Southern counterpart Luis Rincon
finished the game with seven saves.
Rollins played with much of its starting 11 unavailable or injured,
but the Tars still managed to lead the shot count 15-14. Rollins
also had an overwhelming 9-2 corner kick advantage.
The Tars will play their final non-conference game of the year when
they host Flagler on Friday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. Fans can watch
