Rollins Wins Seventh Straight

WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 6, 2007) ' The Rollins women's basketball team extended its winning streak to seven thanks to another outstanding defensive performance in a 51-33 victory over Nova Southeastern at Warden Arena on Saturday. The Tars upped their record to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the Sunshine State Conference, and the Sharks dropped to 3-10, 2-1.

Rollins was led on offense by the frontcourt duo of senior Larissa McDonough and junior Jennifer Catti. McDonough notched her third double-double of the season, scoring 19 and rebounding 12, while Catti scored 10 and grabbed five boards. McDonough shot 7-15 from the field, including 3-4 from the three-point line, and Catti was 5-9 from the field. Junior point guard Jennifer Musgrove also contributed with a solid all-around performance, scoring five points, grabbing nine rebounds, and dishing out three assists. Sophomore guard Jennifer Dyer led all players with five assists.

Ashley Wilson scored 11 for the Sharks on 4-13 shooting from the field. Mechelle Jones added seven points, and Amber Bishko led the team with nine rebounds.

The Rollins defense limited Nova Southeastern to a field goal percentage of 25.0%, including 4-26 (15.4%) in the first half. Six different Tars notched a steal, with McDonough, sophomore guard Jessica Barker, freshman guard Staci Rossi, and junior Rachael Workman each stealing two. The 33 points allowed for Rollins were also a season-low. The Tars finished the game shooting 35.3% from the field and 38.5% from behind the arc. Rollins also dominated on the boards, finishing with a 30-rebound advantage (53-33).

Rollins will continue SSC play on January 10 in Lakeland, Fla. when they play Florida Southern on the road. The women's game will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the men's game will follow at 7:30 p.m. Fan can listen to all Rollins basketball games on the Tars Sports Network at www.RollinsSports.com.
