WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 29, 2007) - After
two rare conference losses, the Rollins women's basketball team got
back on the winning track with a 72-51 victory over Florida
Southern on Monday night at Warden Arena.' The Tars improved to
15-4 overall and 7-2 in Sunshine State Conference play, moving back
into a tie for first place, and the Moccasins dropped to 7-13,
2-7.
Rollins was three points shy of its season-high, and the team
received strong contributions from several players.' Junior point
guard Jennifer Musgrove led the way with 15 points on five of nine
shooting, and she also tied a career high on defense with six
steals.' Senior forward Larissa McDonough added 13 points, and two
Tars reserves also scored in double digits, with junior forward
Jennifer Catti netting 10 and freshman guard Staci Rossi pouring in
11.' Forwards Erin Kirkwood and Rachael Workman each grabbed eight
rebounds, and Workman also blocked two shots.
Florida Southern had three bench players lead the team on
offense; Elise Cassidy scored 13 points, and Alexis Boorde and
Roshaunda Washington added 10 each.' Boorde grabbed eight rebounds,
including five on the offensive end.' Carrissa Collie led all
players with five assists.
The Tars shot 45.5 percent from the floor in the first half,
gaining a 40-26 lead.' Rollins played especially well in the latter
part of the first half, going on a 22-10 run to finish the stanza.'
Both teams started the second half cold, with neither the Tars nor
the Moccasins scoring in the first 3:49.' After a pair of
successful free throws by Florida Southern's Erica Nelson, Rollins
went on a tear, outscoring its opponents 21-2 to gain a lead of
61-30.' The Moccasins responded with a 12-0 run of their own, but
the Tars were able to hold steady and finish the game with a
21-point win.
Although Rollins turned the ball over more times than its
opponent, the Tars were able to capitalize on the Moccasins'
mistakes; Rollins scored 24 points off turnovers compared to just
nine for Florida Southern.' Rollins also dominated down low,
winning the rebound battle 52-42 and outscoring the Moccasins in
the paint 28-10.
Rollins will host non-conference opponent Flagler on Wednesday,
January 31 at 7:00 p.m.' Fans can listen live on the Tars Sports
