Rollins Falls to Florida Tech, Drops First SSC Game

MELBOURNE, Fla. (January 24, 2007) - The Rollins women's basketball team, undefeated in conference play before the game, lost a hard-fought game to Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Tech 55-52 at the Clemente Center on Wednesday night.' Rollins dropped to 14-3 overall and 6-1 in conference, and FIT improved to 15-3, 7-1.

Junior guard Jennifer Musgrove led the Tars with 14 points, shooting five of nine from the field and three of five from three-point territory, and senior forward Larissa McDonough added 12 points and seven rebounds.' Sophomore forward Ines Teuma led Rollins with eight rebounds.

Jennifer Tamilio starred for the Panthers, scoring 27 points and grabbing eight rebounds.' Tamilio shot 9-22 from the field and 6-10 from three-point territory, and she also notched two steals.' Danise Fequiere scored nine off the bench, and Kristin Heminger added eight.

The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams holding the lead five times.' The largest lead in the first half saw Florida Tech go up 15-10 at the 8:02 mark on a three-pointer by Tamilio.' Rollins came back to tie the score at 18 with 4:44 on the clock, but the Panthers pulled ahead to grab a 28-25 lead at the half.'

The second half was more of the same, as neither team would go up by more than four points.' The score was tied at 48 with 1:56 left, and another three by Tamilio gave FIT the lead.' Two clutch free throws by junior forward Rachael Workman pulled the Tars within one, but the Tars could not connect on their final two possessions, the first on a turnover by sophomore guard Jennifer Dyer'driving into the lane and the second on a potential game-tying shot by McDonough in the game's final seconds.

The teams were evenly matched on offense, with both teams shooting 34.5 percent from the field.' The Tars won the battle of the boards, besting the Panthers 46-33 in the rebound category.' Rollins did not hold on to the ball as well as Florida Tech, turning the ball over 21 times compared to just 13 for the Panthers.

Rollins returns to conference play on Saturday, January 27 at Warden Arena against Barry.' Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., and'the game'will be broadcast live on the Tars Sports Network at www.RollinsSports.com.
