PENSACOLA, Fla. (September 8, 2006) ' The
Rollins women's soccer team lost their first of the season 2-1 to
the University of West Florida on Friday at the UWF Soccer
Complex.
The Tars dropped to 4-1-0 with the loss, and the Argonauts,
ranked 16th in the nation, now are 1-1-2 overall.
West Florida's two goals both came in the game's first ten
minutes.' Patricia Toledo knocked one in at the 2:52 mark for the
first goal of the game, and Marcela Franco scored off a cross by
Audia Sullivan at the 9:03 mark.' The Tars finally scored in the
85th minute on a corner kick when Lindsay Taylor headed in the
cross from Jeri Ostuw.' The goal was the third of the year for
Taylor, with all three coming on headers.' Ostuw's assist was her
third of the year.
Rollins finished with more shots than their opponents (14-7),
but the Argos attempted more corner kicks (five to three).' Lindsay
Giblin led the Tars in shots with five.' Taylor had three shots
from her defender position, and midfielder Jessica Mooney attempted
two.' Also with shots for Rollins were Jennifer Dyer, Ostuw,
Jacquelyn Parsons, and Melissa Saint James.' Sullivan and Toledo
each had two shots for West Florida.' Finishing the game with one
shot for West Florida were Franco, Mauricia Nicholson, and Valerie
Noppinger.
Tars goalkeeper Stephanie Woelfel saved one shot while her Argos
counterpart Courtney Jones saved two.' West Florida was called for
15 fouls and Rollins was called for 13.
The Tars will travel to Thomasville, Ga. to face Thomas
University on Sunday afternoon.' The women's match will start at
noon, and the men's match will follow at 2:30 p.m.' Fans will be
