MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (September 30, 2006) ' The
Rollins women's soccer team went ahead 1-0 in the first half in a
Sunshine State Conference match at Barry on Saturday, but the
Buccaneers scored on a penalty kick in the second half to even the
score for good in a hotly contested match.
The Tars now stand at 8-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the SSC, and
Barry is now 2-7-3 and 0-2-2 respectively.
Rollins leading scorer Lindsay Giblin was extremely active on
offense; she lofted a cross from the left sideline to Jeri Ostuw,
who was waiting patiently to head the ball into the net for the
first goal of the game at the 34:44 mark.' Giblin fired off 11
shots, but she eventually had to exit the game for good in the 96th
minute due to an injury.
The Buccaneers' penalty kick goal came in the 50th minute and
was taken by Tiina Elonen.' The foul was called on Tars goalkeeper
Stephanie Woelfel when she took down a Barry attacker in a
breakaway situation.' She also received a yellow card on the
play.
The Tars finished the game with more shots (20 to 16) and corner
kicks (six to two) than their opponents.' Rollins also had more
shots in the two overtime periods than Barry (four to two).'
Woelfel had six saves in net for the Tars, and Kelly Tryson saved
11 for the Buccaneers.
Rollins will host non-conference opponent Webber International
