MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (September 30, 2006) ' The
17th ranked Rollins men's soccer team defeated Barry 3-1 at an
enthusiastic Buccaneer Field on Saturday.
The Tars upped their record to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in Sunshine
State Conference play, and the Buccaneers dropped to 6-4 and 1-4
respectively.
Rollins took advantage of a mistake by Barry goalkeeper Chris
Rich on their first goal of the day.' Defender Eric Vergati fired a
shot from 40 yards out, and Rich mishandled the ball and had it
squirt through his legs and past the end line for the goal.'
The score remained 1-0 into the final 10 minutes of play.' Chris
Cerroni took a pass from Jon Gruenewald on the right sideline and
shot inside the left post for his 11th goal of the year.' Marc
Reynolds pulled the Buccaneers within one goal with a header past
Tars goalkeeper Frazer Siddall; Henry Apaloo and Lee Yakubowich
picked up assists on the goal.' Gruenewald finally put the game out
of reach for Barry in the final minute of the game when he scored
on a breakaway with an assist by Stokes Smith.
Frazer Siddall saved five shots in goal for the Tars, and Rich
saved seven.' Rollins had 19 shots compared to 12 for Barry, and
they had more corner kick attempts as well (nine to seven).
Rollins will continue its SSC season on October 4 when they host
Nova Southeastern at 7:00 p.m.' Fans can listen to the action live
