WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 26, 2006) ' The
Rollins women's soccer team defeated 21st ranked Saint Leo thanks
to stifling defense and relentless attacking in a soggy 1-0 victory
at Barker Family Stadium on Tuesday.
The Tars moved up to 8-2 on the year and 2-0 in the Sunshine
State Conference after receiving votes in the most recent
NSCAA/adidas Division II National Rankings.' The Lions now find
themselves at 7-2-1 overall and 2-2 in conference.
Melissa Saint James scored the lone goal of the game, collecting
a rebound of a Lindsay Giblin free kick and knocking it past Saint
Leo goalkeeper Lauren Hudson at the 48:25 mark.' Saint James,
Giblin, and Jennifer Dyer led the Tars attacking line to outshoot
their opponents 16-10.' The goal was the third of the year for
Saint James, and Giblin's assist pushes her team-leading total to
six.
Head Coach Tony Amato was very complimentary of the Tars defense
after the game, especially captain Alison Tradd.' 'This was the
best game I've seen her play,' Amato praised.' Goalkeeper Stephanie
Woelfel notched her third shutout of the year with four saves.' She
kept the score tied at zero in the first half when she dove and
blocked a shot to her right for a spectacular save.
Hudson entered tonight's game as the SSC's premier goalie (first
in save percentage at .852 and second in goals against average at
0.42), but she looked off her game tonight.' Besides the rebound
goal of Saint James, Hudson's communication problems with her
defense led to several other close calls for the Lions.' The
Rollins attackers kept her busy with six shots on goal, five of
which she saved.
The Tars will travel to Miami Shores, Fla. for an SSC match
against Barry on Saturday, September 30 at 4:30 p.m.' Fans can
