WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 23, 2006) ' The
17th ranked Rollins men's soccer team, averaging 5.29 goals per
game good for first in Division II as of September 17, showcased
their firepower in a 5-1 victory over Florida Southern in a
conference match on Saturday at Barker Family Stadium.
The Tars now stand at 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the Sunshine State
Conference, and Florida Southern dropped to 2-5-1 and 1-1
respectively.
Leslie Osei, leading the team and Division II with nine assists
this year, scored his first goal of the year in the second minute
of play to put Rollins up 1-0.' Thomas Makin gave Osei an
exceptional through ball to the left wing for the assist.' Scott
Murrell scored an unassisted goal at the 24:23 mark to bring the
lead up to two.' Rollins scored their next three goals on headers:
Juan Kusnir (37:01) from an assist by Michael Aronski, Chris
Cerroni (44:51) from assists by Jon Gruenewald and Kusnir, and
Christopher Chafin (63:22) from an assist by Gruenewald.' The lone
goal for the Moccasins came 12 minutes into the second half when
Doug Hughes collected a ball deflected off a Rollins defender and
drove it into the left side of the net.
Tars goalkeeper Frazer Siddall frustrated Florida Southern with
his five saves.' The Moccasins actually had more shots than the
Tars (14-12), but they were not able to take advantage of their
opportunities.' Matt Ward saved two in goal for Florida
Southern.
Midfielders Murrell and Osei each scored their first goals of
the year.' Cerroni's goal was his ninth, Chafin his second, and
Kusnir his sixth.' Makin's assist was his third, Aronski's his
second, and Kusnir's his fifth.' Gruenewald's two assists give him
six on the year.
The Tars will host SSC opponent Saint Leo on Wednesday,
