WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 16, 2006) ' Six
different players scored for Rollins in the men's soccer team's 8-1
victory over non-conference opponent Palm Beach Atlantic at Barker
Family Stadium on Saturday.
The win upped the Tars' record to 6-1, and the Sailfish dropped
to 4-4-1.
Eric Vergati put the Tars on the board at the 6:30 mark when he
received a pass from Juan Kusnir in the penalty area and drove it
into the net.' Kusnir knocked one in just two minutes later from a
Leslie Osei cross on the left sideline, and the two outside
midfielders connected for a second goal at the 18:41 mark.' Daniel
Abrahamson scored for Palm Beach Atlantic off a Cheyne Roberts
assist in the 25th minute to bring the Tars' lead down to two, but
Dennis Chin scored two goals in less than a minute (30:13, 31:04)
to bring the score up to 5-1.' German Vivas scored the final goal
of the first half with assists from Christopher Chafin and
Vergati.
Rollins leading scorer Chris Cerroni was a force on offense, but
tonight it was with the pass instead of the shot.' To go along with
one assist in the first half, he assisted on both of the Tars'
second half goals.' The first came on a free kick at the 77:24
mark, and Tres Loch was there to knock it inside the near post.'
The final goal of the game saw Cerroni chip a ball high into the
air, and Chafin scored in spectacular fashion with a kick over his
head with his back to the goal.
The three assists gave Cerroni four on the year and 18 total
points.' Osei added three assists to extend his team-leading total
to nine.' Kusnir's two goals and one assist gave him four goals and
four assists in the season for a total of 12 points.' Chin's two
goals puts him one behind Cerroni with six.' Vergati's goal was his
first of the year, and his assist was his second.' Chafin's goal
and assist gave him one goal and three assists for the season.'
Vivas' goal was his second of the year, and Loch's was his first.'
Jon Gruenewald recorded his fourth assist as well.
Frazer Siddall saved one goal for the Tars in his 90 minutes of
play.' Joseph Yurchak started in goal for the Sailfish and saved
three, and Andrew Gerber took over in the second half and saved
four.' The Tars' defense of Jack Clifford, Matthew Gowan, Anthony
Santiago, and Vergati for the majority of the game allowed 10 shots
by Palm Beach Atlantic and only two on goal.' Rollins attempted 19
shots, 15 of which were on goal.
The Tars will begin their Sunshine State Conference season on
Wednesday, September 20 at Tampa, and that game is scheduled for a
7:00 p.m. start.' Fans can listen to the action live at www.RollinsSports.com.
