WINTER
PARK, Fla. (August 28, 2006) ' Transfer students Lindsay
Giblin (Auburn University) and Melissa Saint James (Tulane
University) scored two goals each in the Rollins women's soccer
team's 5-1 victory over non-conference rival Flagler on Monday
night at Barker Family Stadium.
Tonight's victory brought Rollins' overall record up to 2-0, and
they have now outscored their opponents 11-1 to start the season.
Flagler dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
Rollins mainstays
Alison Tradd and Ashley Hunsberger connected on a free kick at the
4:15 mark for the game's first goal. Tradd, playing in her first
game of the season after sitting out the season opener with an
injury, lofted the ball and found Hunsberger's head for a beautiful
opening score. As the first half progressed, the game became a
showcase for the Tars' new look offense with Giblin and Saint
James. Tradd picked up her second assist of the game when she
connected with Giblin on a through ball near the half line. Giblin
took the ball and proceeded to outrun and outwit the Flagler
defense on her way to her first goal of the game in the 34th
minute. The 5'7' forward added another goal at the 33:53 mark, and
Saint James capped off the first half scoring with a volley off a
corner kick. Taking that corner kick and recording her second
assist of the season was none other than Lindsay Giblin.
Senior goalkeeper Francesca Nicoloso relieved freshman Stephanie
Woelfel for the Tars at halftime, but just two minutes into the
second half she was called on a foul on an approaching Flagler
attacker, resulting in a penalty kick. Elizabeth Glasgow took the
kick for the Saints, and she was successful. Saint James scored the
final goal of the contest at the 73:46 mark when she sailed one
over Flagler goalkeeper Hope McArthur from outside the penalty
area.
The two goals and one assist increased Giblin's point total for the
season to 10 in just two games. Saint James now has two goals and
one assist in her two games for five points.
Rollins tallied more shots (23-12) and corner kicks (seven to zero)
than Flagler. Woelfel saved three in her half while allowing no
goals, and Nicoloso saved three as well. McArthur saved seven shots
for the Saints.
The Tars will attempt to make it three wins in a row when they host
Alabama-Huntsville on Friday, September 1 at 5:00 p.m. The game
will be followed by the same two schools facing each other in men's
soccer. Fans can listen to the action live on the Tars home on the
