ALBANY , Ga. (April 9, 2006) ' The Rollins softball team was firing on all cylinders Sunday as the Tars blanked Albany State by scores of 8-0 (six innings) and 7-0 in a doubleheader. The Tars (36-13) pounded out 15 hits in game one and eight in game two while getting two solid performances from pitchers Nicole Anderson and Ingrid Schumacher.

'

Rollins was very balanced on offense as three players notched four hits on the day. Amanda DeFilippo hit 4-6 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Kelly Cruz and Schumacher each went 4-7 with Cruz crossing the plate four times.

'

Anderson picked up the game one victory, surrendering just three hits while striking out nine. Schumacher was the game two winner, scattering five hits and walking one with eight strikeouts. The Tars defense was also up to the task as they played error free softball in both games.

'

The Tars pounded the ball in game one, rolling up 15 hits in the 8-0 victory. Senior Kelly Cruz and freshman Ashley East each hit 3-3 in the game with Kallie Jones, Stacy Sanders and Amanda DeFilippo each batting in a pair.

'

Rollins cracked the scoreboard in the second inning of the opener as Schumacher led off the frame with a single to right and eventually scored on a DeFilippo base knock up the middle. In the third, Cruz reached with a one-out single and crossed the plate after Sanders smashed a double off the wall to make the score 2-0. Rollins made it 3-0 in the fourth as an East lead off single eventually led to a Jen Olsen RBI double down the left field line.

'

The Tars ran away with the game in the fifth as they hung four runs on four hits to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Back to back singles by East and DeFilippo with the bases loaded resulted in two runs before Jones rocked a pinch hit single that scored two more with two outs. Rollins tacked on the deciding run in the sixth for their fourth straight win.

'

Schumacher and DeFilippo had the big bats in game two, each hitting 2-3 with an RBI and run scored. Rollins exploded for five runs in the top half of the first, racking up four hits and taking advantage of two Rams miscues. Olsen drew a leadoff walk and scored after a Cruz single to left later in the inning. Jamie Rausch then connected for a single, but the ball squirted past the leftfielder and allowed Cruz and Rachel Almengaul to score. Schumacher and DeFilippo each hit RBI singles later in the inning for a big 5-0 Rollins lead.

'

Two more runs came in the fourth as DeFilippo doubled, then scored off an Olsen single. Almengaul then blasted a double to left that plated Olsen and made the count 7-0 in favor of the visitors. Albany threatened in the sixth, putting two on with one out, but the Tars stayed strong and held on for the shutout sweep.

'

Rollins returns to action on Saturday, April 15 in a non-conference, home doubleheader against Florida Gulf Coast . First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Lake Island Park .
