FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.
(April 28, 2006) ' Rollins rolled up 11 hits, but left nine men
stranded and surrendered 17 hits to Nova Southeastern as the Sharks
roughed up the Tars 16-2 in Sunshine State Conference action on
Friday.
Junior third baseman
Gene Howard shined bright for Rollins (25-22, 5-14 SSC), going 3-4
with an RBI and raising his season batting average to .417. Senior
Brent Magnuson went 2-4 with Ryan McKenzie tallying an RBI double
and scoring a run.
David Nathanson
suffered the loss on the hill, allowing 12 runs, 10 earned, on 12
hits with one strikeout and one walk in five innings of work.
Michael Eppich and Mark Jigarjian also took the mound for Rollins.
For Nova Southeastern, (28-19, 9-10 SSC) Antony Bello surrendered
11 hits and two runs, one earned while throwing all nine innings
for the victory.
Sean McFadden led the
Sharks bats, hitting 3-4 with four RBI and a homer while Greg
Burrows hit 2-4 with a three run homer. Chris Reynolds batted 3-5
with two RBI and Brian Ikalina went 2-4.
The host Sharks got on
the board in the second, only to have Rollins take the lead behind
two runs on three hits and one error in the top of the third. Gary
Martoccio knocked out a one out single, followed by McKenzie's RBI
double. McKenzie then stole third and crossed the plate after a
Howard single up the middle for a 2-1 Tars advantage.
Nova SE then ran away
with the game in their half of the third, racking up nine runs on
seven hits and taking advantage of two Tars errors. McFadden and
Burrow each had three run homers in the frame. The Sharks then went
on to add two more runs in the fifth and plated four in the eighth
for the 14 run victory.
Rollins and Nova
Southeastern will conclude their three game series on Saturday,
April 29 with a 1 p.m. double header in Ft. Lauderdale.
