MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 8, 2006) ' The Rollins women's tennis
team ended their spring break trip on a high note, downing Tusculum
College 8-1 at Myrtle Beach, S.C. Seventh ranked Rollins improves
to 8-5 on the season while #29 Tusculum falls to 4-4.

The
Tars swept all three doubles matches in decisive fashion. Seventh
ranked Tasi Purcell and Marnie Mahler took Claudia Bolivar and
Maria Nevarez 8-2 in the No. 1 match with Sonia Bernal and Cassie
Webster winning 8-6 over Danae Valderrama and Jennifer Sparks in
the No. 2 position. Anastasiya Shevchenko teamed with Silvia
Frandji for an 8-1 win over Amanda Pike and Bronwyn Hartley in the
No. 3 position.

Rollins also has little trouble in singles play, winning five in
straight sets. #15 Purcell won the No. 1 match 6-2, 6-0 over
Bolivar with #48 Mahler taking the No. 2 match 6-2, 6-1 over
Valderrama. Sonia Bernal won at No. 3 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-3
over Nevarez, Shevchenko won the No. 4 match 6-4, 6-2 over Hartley
and Frandji scored a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 5 match. Tusculum's
Jennifer Sparks got past Rollins' Melanie Beck 6-0, 7-5 in the No.
6 position.

Rollins returns to action Wednesday, March 15 at home against
Illinois State. Play is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
