KISSIMMEE,
Fla. (March 7, 2006) ' The Rollins College softball team traveled
to Kissimmee, Fla. to take part in the Rebel games on Monday
afternoon and lost 4-2 to Northern Kentucky in the first game, but
took game two 3-1 over Wayne State. The Tars are now 15-2 on the
season and are outscoring their opponents 81-24.
'
In
the opening game, Rollins was held scoreless until the bottom of
the seventh when they rallied to score two runs, but came up short
and lost the game 4-2. Freshman Nicole Anderson (Brandon, Fla.) got
the start in the circle, allowing six hits and four runs. Sophomore
Ingrid Schumacher (Naples, Fla.) took over for Anderson in the
third, giving up only one hit and striking out three to finish the
game. At the plate, six different Tars were able to get a hit in
the game, with freshman Jamie Rausch (Ocoee, Fla.) and senior Kelly
Cruz (Winter Springs, Fla.) recording the two RBI in the seventh
inning.

The
Tars bounced back from only their second loss of the season by
defeating Wayne State 3-1 in game two of the evening. Schumacher
pitched all six innings, allowing only four hits and striking out
four. Freshman Ashley East (Pace, Fla.), senior Kallie Jo Jones
(Chandler, Okla.) and Cruz all notched two hits in the game, with
East recording the Tars' third triple of the season.

The
Tars will return to action on Wednesday, March 8, when they host
Salem International. First pitch of the double header will be at
6:00 p.m. at Lake Island Park.
