CLEARWATER, Fla. (March 5, 2006) ' The Rollins softball team made
it 10 wins in a row and emerged as the Eckerd Spring Fling's lone
undefeated school after taking care of Queens College and Northwood
(Mich.) on Sunday. Rollins opened the day with a 10-2 drubbing over
Queens, then shutout Northwood 3-0, improving the Tars to 14-1 on
the year.
'
Freshman Rachel Brenneman recorded the victory against Queens,
surrendering two runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Fellow
youngster Nicole Anderson improved to 7-1 with the shutout win over
#19 Northwood, scattering six hits and racking up 11
strikeouts.
'
Kelly Cruz and Jennifer Olsen had the big bats on the day as each
rocked five hits. Cruz went 5-7 with two RBI with Olsen batting 5-6
with an RBI and three runs scored.
'
Against Queens, the Tars rolled up 16 hits and took advantage of
five Knights' errors to grab the 10-2 victory. Olsen and Cruz led
Rollins' hit parade as each tallied three hits and batted in a run.
Stacy Sanders added two RBI as all but one starter scored a run in
the contest.
'
Rollins scored early and often as Olsen led off with a triple, then
crossed the plate after an Ashley East RBI single. East scored
later in the inning off of a Cruz RBI double to make the score 2-0.
The Tars blew the game open in the second, rolling up four runs on
four hits and three Queens errors. Rollins got another in the third
as the Knights were tagged with another two errors. Queens came
back and banged out three hits and scored two in their half of the
third to make the score 7-2. Rollins remained unfazed as Randi
Irwin blasted a line drive RBI single in the fifth and Ingrid
Schumacher and Devon Kontos each had RBI's in the sixth to give
Rollins the big win.

The
Tars kept rolling into their second game, going up 1-0 in the
second inning off of a Cruz RBI triple that scored Jamie Rausch.
Victoria Rudolph led off the third with a double to the
right-center wall and crossed the plate after an East ground out.
Olsen then singled and scored on a failed pick off attempt at first
to make the score 3-0. The Timberwolves threatened in the top of
the sixth as they had two on with two outs, but Rudolph made a
running catch in right to preserved the Tars lead and eventual
win.

Rollins returns to action on Monday, March 6 at the Rebel Games in
Kissimmee. They will match up with Northern Kentucky at 4:10 p.m.
and Wayne State at 6 p.m.
