PARK, Fla. (March 24, 2006) ' The Rollins College softball team
(29-7, 7-3 SSC) ran into a hot pitcher on Friday evening and
dropped the series opener to Saint Leo 1-0. Lions' pitcher Katie
Heintz allowed only three hits and struck out 14 batters to lead
Saint Leo (20-12, 4-3 SSC) over the Tars. Freshman Nicole Anderson
recorded the loss for the Tars, throwing seven innings and allowing
only six hits and one run while striking out five.

Inning
after inning the two pitchers held their opponents scoreless and
combined to allow only nine hits in the game, seven singles, one
double and one home run. Junior outfielder Hayley Mallory got a
hold of an Anderson (Brandon, Fla.) pitch and sent to ball sailing
over the left field fence for the game's lone score in the fifth
inning.

Senior
Kelly Cruz (Winter Springs, Fla.) recorded two hits in the game,
going 2-3, while junior Devon Kontos (Orlando, Fla.) notched the
other hit for the Tars, a single to left field in the sixth
inning.

The
Tars and the Lions will return for a Saturday afternoon double
header. First pitch will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Lake Island
Park in Winter Park, Fla.
