WINTER
PARK, Fla. (March 20, 2006) ' Playing their sixth and seventh games
in the past four days, the Rollins College Softball team came from
behind to defeat the Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders in game one
of their double header 4-3 but fell 2-1 in game two. With the
split, the Tars are now 29-6 overall on the season and Southern
Arkansas stands at 10-18.

In
the first game, Rollins jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after
senior Kelly Cruz (Winter Springs, Fla.) doubled home two runs in
the bottom of the first. Southern Arkansas then scored the next
three runs, one in the fourth courtesy of an Erin Litvik homerun
and two in the fifth. The Tars tied the score in the bottom of the
sixth when junior Victoria Rudolph (Titusville, Fla.) hit her first
homerun of the season over the center field fence. Lady Mulerider
pitcher Macie Astolfo then retired the next three batters, keeping
the game notched at three. Rollins freshman pitcher Nicole Anderson
(Brandon, Fla.) put Southern Arkansas down in order in the seventh,
giving the Tars a chance to win in the bottom of the seventh.

Freshman
Ashley East (Pace, Fla.) opened the inning by earning a walk and
then advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Stacy
Sanders (Orlando, Fla.). Freshman Jamie Rausch (Ocoee, Fla. )
stepped to the plate and earned the second walk of the inning and
then Cruz sent a foul ball to the third base side for the second
out of the inning. Sophomore Ingrid Schumacher (Naples, Fla.)
stepped to the plate with two out and two on when relief pitcher
Kayla King's pitch got by the catcher advancing the runners to
second and third. The catcher then attempted to throw out East as
she was advancing to third and the ball went into left field,
allowing East to score the winning run.

With
the victory, Anderson 's record improved to 16-5 on the season. She
went all seven innings allowing seven hits and three runs while
walking three and striking out seven.

In
the nightcap, both teams scored a run in the first and the Lady
Muleriders got the go ahead run in the fourth to win the game 2-1.
Schumacher suffered her first loss of the season, allowing six hits
and two runs in six innings of work. Kayla King took the win for
Southern Arkansas. Five separate Tars, East, Rausch, Cruz, Rudolph
and junior Devon Kontos (Orlando, Fla.), tallied one hit in the
game, as the Tars were out-hit 6-5 and left five base runners
stranded.

After
playing 28 games over the past three weeks, the Tars will take the
next three days off prior to their conference match-up with Saint
Leo. The teams will meet for one game on Friday, March 24 at 7:00
p.m. at Lake Island Park and then return for a double header on
Saturday, March 25 at 1:00 p.m.
