WINTER
PARK, Fla. (March 18, 2006) ' In the friendly confines of Lake
Island Park, the Rollins College softball team improved to 27-4 on
the season and 7-2 in the Sunshine State Conference by defeating #8
Barry University (21-6, 7-2 SSC) twice on Saturday afternoon, 3-1
in game one and a come from behind 2-1 victory in game two.
Freshman pitcher Nicole Anderson got the win in both games,
throwing 8.2 innings, allowing only four hits, one run and one walk
while striking out five batters on the afternoon.

The
Tars got an early lead in game one, scoring three runs on three
hits in the bottom of the first inning against Bucs pitcher Ramie
Garcia. Sophomore Jennifer Olsen (Winter Haven, Fla.) opened the
game with a single to left field and scored on junior Stacy
Sanders' (Orlando, Fla.) double to left field. Freshman Jamie
Rausch was the next hitter and she notched her third homerun of the
season, sending the ball over the center field fence.

The
Bucs got on the scoreboard in the fourth, recording two hits and
one run. Ashley Loose doubled to center field and later scored on a
throwing error by the Rollins' second baseman.
'
Anderson
(Brandon, Fla.) held strong through the later innings, allowing
only one hit after the fourth. Rausch led the Rollins bats, going
3-3 with two RBI and one run scored. For the Bucs, Maile Keeney
went 2-3 at the plate. Rollins out hit the Bucs five to four in the
game and both teams had one error.

In
game two, the Bucs opened the scoring in the fourth inning, when
Keeney got a hold of an Ingrid Schumacher (Naples, Fla.) pitch and
sent the ball over the left field fence. That was all the scoring
Barry could muster in the game, as Schumacher and Anderson combined
to allow only six hits and one run, while walking only one batter
and striking out three.

The
Tars rallied in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs on three
hits. Senior Kelly Cruz (Winter Springs, Fla.) stepped to the plate
with runners on first and third and two out and sent an Amber Jack
pitch to the left field corner, scoring both runners. Anderson, who
came on for Schumacher in the middle of the sixth inning, then
promptly put out the next three Barry hitters in order, preserving
the Tars 2-1 advantage.

Recording
hits for the Tars in game two were Rausch, Cruz, Sanders, and
Kallie Jones (Chandler, Okla.) with one hit apiece and Olsen with
two.
'
Rollins
will look to continue their winning streak on Sunday, March 19 when
they travel to Kissimmee, Fla. to take part in the Rebel games. The
Tars will take on Southern New Hampshire at 4:10 p.m. and NW
Missouri State at 6:00 p.m. at the Osceola Softball Complex.
