WINTER
PARK, Fla. (March 17, 2006) ' In the series opener between two top
Sunshine State Conference teams, the #8 Barry Buccaneers (21-4, 7-0
SSC) were able to hold the Rollins College Tars (25-4, 5-2 SSC)
scoreless, taking the 1-0 victory. Barry pitcher Ramie Garcia
allowed only two hits in seven innings to post her eighth win of
the season while Rollins freshman pitcher Nicole Anderson gave up
four hits and one run in seven innings of action.
'
The
Bucs opened the game with two hits in the top of the first, an
infield single by Shyla Rider and a single to right field by Maile
Keeney. Keeney's single sent Ashley Loose across home plate for the
game's only run after Loose reached base on a fielder's choice and
stole second.
'
The
one run would stand up the entire game as both teams struggled to
hit the ball. Rollins recorded two hits on the night, both in the
fifth inning, a single to left field by Devon Kontos (Orlando,
Fla.) and an infield single by Rachel Almengual (Odessa, Fla.).
'
The
two teams will return to the field Saturday, March 18 for a double
header. The first pitch at Lake Island Park is scheduled for 1:00
p.m.
