WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 12, 2006) ' The winning continues for the Rollins College softball team as they defeated No. 17 Carson-Newman College 5-0 in game one of the double header on Sunday afternoon and 4-3 in game two. The Tars improve to 22-2 on the season while the Lady Eagles fall to 17-7.

'

The first game saw the Tars use their pitching strength to power past their opponents. Freshman Nicole Anderson (Brandon, Fla.) pitched a one-hitter while walking only one batter and striking out eight. At the plate, senior Kelly Cruz (Winter Springs, Fla.) led the Tars, going 2-3 with two RBI. Senior Kallie Jones (Chandler, Okla.), sophomores Jennifer Olsen (Winter Haven, Fla.) and Rachel Almengual (Odessa, Fla.) and freshman Jamie Rausch (Ocoee, Fla.) also registered hits in the game, with Almengual hitting a two-run double in the Tars three-run second inning.

'

The second game saw the Tars go up by two runs only to give up three to the visitors in the later innings. Rollins was down one run in the bottom of the seventh and behind the bat of Ingrid Schumacher (Naples, Fla.) pulled out the 4-3 victory. Schumacher pitched the first six innings for the Tars allowing eight hits and three runs. Anderson came on for Schumacher in the seventh to attempt to keep the Eagle's advantage to only one run. With runners on second and third and no outs, Anderson remained calm and put the next three batters out in order, preserving the one run deficit. Rollins came to bat in the bottom of the seventh and Almengual immediately singled to left field and moved to second on a wild pitch. Jones then grounded out to the pitcher, Rausch was intentionally walked and Cruz popped up to the shortstop, leaving runners on first and second and two out. The runners advanced one base on a passed ball with Schumacher at the plate. Schumacher then singled home the winning runs, giving the Tars the 4-3 victory.

'

On the afternoon, the Tars out-hit Carson-Newman 14-9.

'

Rollins will waste no time and return to the field on Monday, March 13 to host Spring Arbor for a double header at 6:00 p.m. at Lake Island Park .
