WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 28, 2006) ' The Rollins College softball team improved their record to 8-1 on the season on Tuesday evening, defeating the Dolphins of Le Moyne College 7-4 in game one and 5-3 in game two. It was the 401 and 402 career victories for head coach Michelle Frew, who has her Tars firing on all cylinders this season.

'

In the first game, freshman pitcher Nicole Anderson (Brandon, Fla.) went the distance, allowing five hits and four runs, while walking one and striking out eight. With the win, she improves her record to 5-1 on the season. The Tars' bats were held hitless until the third inning when they exploded for seven hits and seven runs. Junior catcher Devon Kontos (Orlando, Fla.) started the inning off with a single to left field and later scored on Ashley East's (Pace, Fla.) double to center field. Also grabbing hits for the Tars were senior Kelly Cruz (Winter Springs, Fla.), freshman Jamie Rausch (Ocoee, Fla.), and sophomores Ingrid Schumacher (Naples, Fla.) and Rachel Almengual (Odessa, Fla.).

'

The Dolphins (4-4) fought back and rallied to score two runs in the fourth, including hitting consecutive doubles, and two runs in the sixth off a home run by sophomore Emma Murphy, but that was not enough to get past the Tars. Rollins out-hit the Dolphins 10-5 and both teams recorded two errors.

'

The second game started as a pitchers dual, as Schumacher allowed only two hits through the first five innings and Dolphins pitcher Sarah Reed held Rollins hitless through three. In the bottom of the fourth, the Tars came alive, recording four hits and four runs, including a leadoff double by sophomore Jennifer Olsen (Winter Haven, Fla.) and a two run double by Almengual.

'

In the bottom of the fifth, Rausch hit her second home run of the season, putting the Tars up 5-0. The Dolphins came to bat in the top of the seventh and recorded four hits and scored three runs before Lyndsey Balinskas grounded into a double play to end the game. Schumacher pitched all seven innings, allowing seven hits and three runs and striking out five.

'

Rollins will return to action on Wednesday, March 1 when they host Lake Superior State University at Lake Island Park. First pitch of the double header is set for 6:00 p.m.
