PARK, Fla. (March 1, 2006) ' The Rollins College softball team
continued their winning ways on Wednesday evening as they defeated
Lake Superior State University 2-0 in game one and 3-1 in game two
of the double header. With the wins, the Tars improve to 10-1
overall and the Lakers fall to 2-6.
'
In
game one, sophomore pitcher Ingrid Schumacher (Naples, Fla.) won
her fourth game of the season by holding the Lakers to only one hit
while walking two and striking out seven. At the plate, Rollins
opened the scoring in the second when sophomore Rachel Almengual
(Odessa, Fla.) sent freshman Jamie Rausch (Ocoee, Fla.) home on a
bunt single. Rausch scored the second run for the Tars in the
fourth when junior Stacy Sanders (Orlando, Fla.) doubled to left
field.

The
Tars took their 2-0 lead into the late innings and Schumacher held
the Lakers hitless, preserving the Tars ninth victory of the
season. Rollins out hit their opponents 8-1, with hits coming off
the bats of sophomore Jennifer Olsen (Winter Haven, Fla.), Rausch,
Sanders, and Almengual.

Freshman
pitcher Rachel Brenneman (Cheshire, Conn.) got her first start in
the circle for the Tars in the second game and held on for the 3-1
victory. The Lakers got on the board first in the third inning when
Stephanie Reveley singled to left, stole second and then scored on
Audrey Hewitt's single. The Tars quickly answered back and scored
two runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Sanders notched
her second double of the evening off pitcher Lisa Dahm, scoring
Olsen, and then scored herself off Rausch's single to left. Rollins
scored a security run in the fourth when junior Devon Kontos
(Orlando, Fla.) singled up the middle, scoring Ashley East (Pace,
Fla.).
'
Brenneman
then took control, allowing only one more hit in the seventh inning
to take the victory. In her seven innings, Brenneman had four hits
against her, walked two and struck out nine.
'
Rollins
will return to action on Friday, March 3 when they travel to St.
Petersburg , Fla. to take part in the Eckerd Tournament. The Tars
will play two games on Friday and two games on Sunday, March 5. The
first game of the tournament for Rollins will be a rematch of
tonight's game against Lake Superior State University. Game time is
set for 6:00 p.m.
