WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 18, 2006) ' The Rollins College women's basketball team won their 10th regular season Sunshine State Conference championship on Saturday afternoon by defeating Barry University 46-33. The No. 9 ranked Tars continue their impressive undefeated season as they move to 24-0 overall and 14-0 in the SSC.

Freshman guardJennifer Dyer (Wake Forest, N.C.) was the lone Tar in double figures as she scored 12 points on 5-9 shooting from the field. Senior forward Joslyn Giles (Winter Haven, Fla.), who was honored before the game for scoring her 1,000th point at Rollins during the Tampa game on Wednesday, added seven points. Also scoring seven points for Rollins were sophomores Jennifer Musgrove (Palm Bay, Fla.) and Rachael Workman (Northampton, Mass.) and freshman Jessica Barker (Orange City, Fla.).

Sophomore guard Sandra Jansson led the Buccaneers (8-17, 5-9 SSC) with 11 points.

The game remained a tight affair throughout the first half, with each team taking the lead several times. The Buccaneers took a 17-16 lead with 6:48 remaining in the half off an Alex Fernander lay-up. Twenty-five ticks later, Giles hit a jumper, putting the Tars up on the scoreboard, where they remained for the rest of the game. Rollins took a 26-19 lead into the locker room at halftime.

During the second half, the Tars slowly put away their opponents, holding the Bucs to only four points over the last 11:47 in the game.

Five separate players grabbed a game high seven rebounds, Workman and Musgrove for the Tars and Amanda Mageean, Princess Bailey, and Fernander for the Bucs.

Rollins' nationally ranked defense held Barry to 23.7 percent shooting during the game, while forcing 21 turnovers. On the afternoon, Barry was able to out-rebound the Tars 47-45.

'

Rollins will play their home finale this Wednesday, February 22, when they host Florida Southern. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. Prior to the game the three seniors will be recognized for their play at Rollins.
