BOCA
RATON, Fla. (February 11, 2006) ' The Rollins College women's
basketball team broke another school record on Saturday evening as
they defeated Lynn University 72-60 for their 22nd consecutive
victory, bypassing the 21 game mark established by the 2003-04
team. The Tars now find themselves 22-0 on the season and 12-0 in
the Sunshine State Conference while Lynn falls to 9-14 overall and
4-9 in the conference. The Tars are now one of only five schools in
NCAA collegiate basketball, men and women, to still be undefeated
this far into the season.
Senior forward Joslyn
Giles (Winter
Haven, Fla.) scored a career high 24 points for the Tars, leaving
her only three points shy of 1,000 in her three-year career at
Rollins. Sophomore guard Jennifer
Musgrove (Palm
Bay, Fla.) was the other Tar in double figures as she notched 12
points and also added a team high seven rebounds. Freshman guard
Jade Williams, who was on fire in the second half where she scored
15 of her points, led the Fighting Knights with 22, including a
game high three treys. Senior center Megan Osmer led all players
with 15 rebounds.
During the first half, the Tars held the Fighting Knights to 23.3
percent shooting, including allowing only two field goals during
the first 10 minutes of the half. Giles led the Tars in the half,
scoring 11 points, including going 7-9 from the free throw line.
Musgrove added eight of her points in the half, making two of three
from behind the three point arc. The Fighting Knights were hot from
the free throw line, making 13 of 15 attempts.'
The second half saw Rollins pull away from the Fighting Knights,
going up by as many as 25, only to see Lynn fight back and cut the
lead to ten points. In that four minute stretch, ending with four
minutes remaining on the clock, the Fighting Knights outscored
Rollins 17-3. Rollins, learning their lesson from the Eckerd game
where they squeaked out a two-point victory, held on down the
stretch and pulled out the 12 point victory.
With their 22nd victory in hand, the Tars will return to Winter
Park for a three game home stand, with Tampa arriving first to take
on the Tars on Wednesday, February 15. The Spartans are currently
in second place in the conference and will be looking to revenge
their 71-58 loss to the Tars in January. Game time in Winter Park
is set for 5:30 p.m.
