SAINT LEO ,
Fla. (February 1, 2006) The Rollins College men's basketball team
got their sixth straight victory, with a 76-49 thumping of Saint
Leo. The Tars (15-5, 8-2) used an enormous second half effort to
bury the Lions (6-15, 2-8). With the win, and a Lynn University
loss at Nova Southeastern Wednesday night, the Tars move into a
first place tie in the Sunshine State Conference with the Lynn
Fighting Knights.

The
Tars were led by sophomore point guard Jonny Reibel. Reibel
finished with a game high 14 points, five rebounds, and four
assists. Junior guard Deon Troupe finished with 11 points on 4-9
shooting from the floor. Freshman guard Kevin Hogan finished with
11 points while going 5-6 from the free throw line. And junior
forward Isaac Codrey finished with eight points and four
rebounds.

The
Lions were led by Michael Caulfield who finished with 12 points on
4-9 shooting from beyond the arc. Brandon Lyngse finished with a
game high nine rebounds and six points before fouling out. Saint
Leo was without the services of the Sunshine State Conference's
leading scorer, Scott Seifert.

Rollins got hot right out of the gate. The Tars went up 13-6 in the
first five minutes on a three point field goal by Jonny Reibel. The
Lions closed the gap to three points on a lay-in by Brandon Lyngse
with 10:25 to play. The Tars then extended the lead out to ten
points on a John Thinnes lay-in with 8:39 to play. The two teams
then went on a three minute scoreless streak. The Tars would add a
few more points and would go in at the break up 33-23.

Rollins would bury Saint Leo early on in the second half. Rollins
went up 19 points in the first four minutes of the second on a
three pointer by Jonny Reibel. From there the Tars would put it in
cruise control the rest of the way. Rollins led by as many as 33 in
the second half. They would go on to defeat the Lions76-49.

The
Tars finished the game shooting 47 percent from the field,
including 38 percent from way downtown. Rollins held the Lions to
35 percent shooting and out-rebounded Saint Leo, 38-35.

The
Tars will be back in action on Saturday, February 4 when they will
travel to Saint Petersburg to battle the very tough Eckerd Tritons.
The Tritons beat the Tars on January 4, 66-55 in Warden Arena.
Tip-off is set for 4:00 pm.
