MELBOURNE, Fla. (December 30, 2006) ' The
Rollins women's basketball team finished the 2006 Florida Tech
Holiday Classic with a 57-51 overtime victory over Albany State at
the Clemente Center on Saturday afternoon.' The Tars improved to
8-2 with the win, and the Golden Rams dropped to 4-5 with the
loss.
Senior forward Larissa McDonough once again led the Tars on the
court with 13 points and 16 rebounds, good for her second
double-double of the season.' McDonough had an outstanding overall
game, dishing out four assists, blocking two shots, and notching
three steals.' Junior guard Jennifer Musgrove added 11 points,
including a 7-9 showing at the free throw line.' The point guard
also had a game-high four steals.' The Tars also received nine
points, seven rebounds, and two steals from junior forward Jennifer
Catti and eight points and three steals from sophomore guard
Jennifer Dyer.
La'Toya Coard scored a game-high 15 points to lead Albany
State.' Also scoring in double figures for the Golden Rams was
Aldrany Peak with 11, including 6-8 from the free throw line.'
Ashley Scroggins grabbed 11 rebounds.
The game was back-and-forth throughout regulation, including 11
lead changes and nine times in which the score was tied.' Albany
State held the largest lead of the first half when they went ahead
10-5 after six minutes of play.' The Tars recovered to take a 29-26
lead as the first stanza came to an end.' A McDonough layup in the
first minute of the second half put the Tars up by five, but that
would be the largest lead they would have until overtime.'
McDonough had an open look at a three-pointer with 12 seconds left
in regulation, but her miss pushed the game into extra time with
the score tied at 48.' The Golden Rams struggled to find scoring
chances in overtime, making only one field goal and attempting only
three.
The difference in the game proved to be the Tars' advantage in
turnovers.' Rollins turned the ball over 12 times, and their
opponents gave the ball up 25 times, leading to 25 points for the
Tars.' Rollins also had the advantage at the free throw line, where
they converted 15 of 27 attempts.' Albany State went to the line
just 12 times, and they converted eight of them.
The Tars will be on the road for their final non-conference game
when they face Palm Beach Atlantic on January 3 at 7:00 p.m.'
Rollins then will resume its Sunshine State Conference season when
they play host to Nova Southeastern on January 6 at 2:00 p.m.
