TAMPA, Fla. (December 2, 2006) ' The Rollins
women's basketball team avenged last season's Sunshine State
Conference Tournament final loss to the University of Tampa with a
55-43 victory over the Spartans in the SSC opener on
Saturday'afternoon at the Bob Martinez Sports Center.' The Tars
increased their record to 5-2, 1-0, and Tampa dropped to 3-3, 0-1
with the loss.
The Tars once again featured a balanced offense with four
players scoring in double digits.' Sophomore guard Jessica Barker
scored 13 off the bench to lead the team on five of eight from the
field and three of five from three-point territory.' Senior forward
Larissa McDonough scored 12, and junior guard Jennifer Musgrove and
sophomore forward Ines Teuma each added 11.
DeShaydia Mackey scored a game-high 16 points to lead the
Spartans.' Sheena Walton, in her first game of the year after
missing time due to injury, scored 10 from the frontcourt.
The Tars won the battle of the boards 58-45, and Musgrove
grabbed 14 to lead the team.' Barker grabbed nine rebounds,
McDonough eight, and junior forward Jennifer Catti and sophomore
guard Jennifer Dyer seven.' Musgrove led the team with five
assists, and Dyer added four.' Walton blocked nine shots in her
season debut, but the Tars were able to avoid her presence enough
to get the win.
Rollins will have a short break as the student-athletes take
their final exams for the fall semester.' The'women will be back in
action at home against Webber International on Wednesday, December
