TAMPA, Fla. (December 2, 2006) ' The Rollins
men's basketball team started their 2006-07 Sunshine State
Conference season in frustrating fashion, losing to the University
of Tampa 80-71 at the Bob Martinez Sports Center on Saturday.' The
Tars dropped to 4-2, 0-1 with the loss, and the Spartans improved
their record to 6-1, 1-0.
The Tars had three players score in double digits, and senior
guard John Thinnes led the way with 16 points.' Sophomore guard
Kevin Hogan added 13 from the bench, and senior forward Isaac
Codrey notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Tampa received a balanced offensive effort, as five players
scored in double digits.' Chris King led all scorers with 21, and
Chris Evans added 19.' Matt Pezzullo scored 16 off the bench, and
Jeremy Black and Jonathan Ball had 12 and 10 points respectively.'
Three of those players had double-doubles; Black, Evans, and King
all had 10 rebounds apiece.
Rollins entered halftime down by just two, but the Spartans went
on a tear to open the second half, outscoring the Tars 21-5 in the
first eight minutes.' The Tars narrowed the lead to single digits,
but clutch free throw shooting by the Spartans, including an
eight-for-eight performance by Pezzullo in the game's final three
minutes, kept the Tars from coming too close.
Rollins will have a short break as the student-athletes take
their final exams for the fall semester.' The team will be back in
action at home against Webber International on Monday, December 11
at 7:00 p.m.' Fans can listen to all the action live on the Tars
