Rollins Volleyball Honors Seniors Schneider and Silveira

WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 4, 2006) ' The Rollins volleyball team closed out their 2006 season with a loss to the No. 2 University of Tampa 3-0 (30-22, 30-14, 31-29). Tar seniors Sarah Schneider and Flavia Silveira were honored by their coaches and teammates before the contest on an emotional Saturday evening at Warden Arena.

The Tars were led by right-side hitter Lorena Orlandini who tallied nine kills and two assisted blocks. Outside hitter Stephanie Nichols notched eight kills and 15 digs and Juniors Piper Young and Christina Reinders each notched five kills. Freshman middle blocker Brittainy Daiger added seven kills, one solo block and one assisted block in the loss to Tampa.

Setter Lacey Malarky had 32 assists, while libero Kim Cline totaled 14 digs.

Tampa started Game 1 leading Rollins and never let that lead slip out of their hands. Nichols led Rollins with four kills and Orlandini had three. The Tars could only get within three points of the Spartans (21-18) before Tampa succeeded in winning the first game 30-22.

The second game began with the score close, but at 7-6 the Spartans ran away with four straight points to give them an 11-6 lead over the Tars. Tampa's offense was a force to be reckoned with and Rollins would only score eight more points in Game 2 (30-14).

Down for most of Game 3, the Tars made their comeback at 18-18. The score went back and forth in a nerve-racking third game. At 29-29, a kill by Tampa middle blocker Erin Clark gave the Spartans a 30-29 lead. A solo block by Clark on a Rollins attack ended Game 3 and the Tars' season 31-29.

Middle blocker Clark led the Spartans (29-1, 15-1) with 12 kills, three digs, two solo blocks and two assisted blocks.

Rollins ends its 2006 season with a record of 19-13 and 7-9 in the Sunshine State Conference.
