WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 29, 2006) ' The
Rollins women's basketball team broke their two-game losing streak
with a commanding 61-36 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic at Warden
Arena on Wednesday night.' The Tars improved to 4-2 with the win,
and the Sailfish dropped to 2-4.
The Tars featured a balanced offense throughout the game; five
different players scored eight points or more.' Junior guard
Jennifer Musgrove led the way with 11 points and was perfect from
the field, shooting five of five.' Other active Tars on offense
were senior forward Larissa McDonough and sophomore guard Jennifer
Dyer with nine points and junior forward Jennifer Catti and
freshman guard Staci Rossi with eight.
The Rollins defense forced a season high 31 turnovers from their
opponents, and Dyer led the way with a career high seven steals.'
The Tars also received four steals from Musgrove and three each
from Rossi and sophomore guard Rachael Malatesta.' Rollins also won
the rebound battle 42-33, with the trio of Musgrove, sophomore
forward Ines Teuma, and freshman forward Brittainy Daiger pulling
down six boards each.
The game got off to a slow start, with both teams struggling
from the field.' Nearly six minutes ticked off the clock before a
team scored more than two points.' The Sailfish briefly took a 6-5
lead with 11:41 left in the first half when Sitara Richard hit a
three-pointer, but that would be the last time PBA would lead the
rest of the way.' Minutes later, the Tars hit their stride on
offense with a 19-3 run.' Although the Sailfish would fight back to
bring the deficit down to nine points with two minutes left in the
half, Rollins went into the second stanza leading 32-19.
The Tars started the second half hot, going on a 16-6 run in the
first eight minutes.' Rollins led by as many as 26 late in the
second half, and the Tars would eventually go on to finish the game
up by 25 with a final score of 61-36.
Student Assistant Joslyn Giles was recognized before the game
for her Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year award from the
2005-06 season.' Giles played three years for the Tars, scoring
over 1,000 points and totaling almost 800 rebounds, and she was
named to the Kodak/WBCA All-America Team last season.
Rollins will travel to Tampa for its first SSC contest of the
year in a rematch of last year's SSC Tournament Final.' The women's
team will play the Spartans at 2:00 p.m., and they will be followed
by the men's game at 4:00 p.m.' Fans can listen to all the action
