WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 24, 2006) ' The No. 20 Rollins women's basketball team had their regular season winning streak stopped at 30 by Lake Superior State on Thursday, falling 59-44 in the opening game of the Rollins College Thanksgiving Classic.

The Tars (3-1) shot just 26 percent from the floor while committing a season high 26 turnovers. The Lakers (1-2) turned the ball over 23 times in the contest, but were boosted by 45 percent shooting from the field.

Senior Larissa McDonough paced the Rollins attack for the third time this season, netting 17 points behind 3-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Junior Jennifer Musgrove was also 3-4 from long range and racked up 12 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Jessica Barker led Rollins on the glass, pulling down a team best seven rebounds.

Mandi Johnson led Lake Superior State with 16 points and a game high nine rebounds. Monica Rehmann chipped in 12 points while Jaclyn Armstrong, Ronlea Peterson and Jill Walton each added six.

The Tars were beat on the boards for the first time this season with the Lakers winning the battle on the glass 36-35.

The winless Lakers came out of the gate gunning, knocking down 3-4 three-pointers to open up a 15-10 lead seven minutes in. Rollins then went on a 9-2 run to take a two point lead after a Musgrove steal and lay-up with just under 10 minutes to play. Rehmann answered with a trey on the Lakers next trip down the floor to spark a 14-0 spurt, giving the visitors a 29-19 lead with five minutes in the half. Shalyn Beauchamp connected from long range in the waning minutes to give Lake State a 34-21 halftime advantage.

Early in the second half, McDonough tallied back to back three-pointers and cut the lead to four, 38-34 with 15 minutes on the clock, but the Tars again caught a cold streak and the Lakers stretched their lead back to double-digits. Lake Superior State shut the door with 6:25 remaining when Peterson and Walton drained back to back three-pointers and put the visitors up 17, 53-36.

Both Rollins and Lake Superior State will be back in action on Saturday, November 25 in day two of the Rollins College Thanksgiving Classic.
