Tars Roll to Third Straight

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (November 21, 2006) ' The Rollins College women's basketball team rolled to its third straight victory to open the 2006-07 season with a 61-48 win over non-conference opponent Flagler on Tuesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.' The third win improves Rollins' record to 3-0, and Flagler dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

Senior forward Larissa McDonough scored a game-high 14 for the Tars, and junior forward Jennifer Catti was right behind her with 10.' Sophomore guard Jennifer Dyer grabbed a team-leading seven rebounds, and junior guard Jennifer Musgrove and sophomore forward Ines Teuma each had six.' Musgrove also led the team with four assists, two blocks, and six steals.

Jamie Allenbaugh scored 13 to lead the Saints, and she also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.' Brittney Garmon scored nine and added four rebounds and three steals, and Elizabeth Tuzzolo scored seven.

The Tars opened up the first half to a 33-23 lead.' McDonough scored 10 of her 14 in the first half, including 3-6 from the field and 3-6 from the free throw line.' Catti, Wideline Jean, and Erin Kirkwood each scored four before halftime, and Dyer notched three steals.' Allenbaugh went 4-13 from the field for eight points, and she also grabbed five of her rebounds in the first half.

Rollins opened the second half hot, jumping out to a 21-point lead after an 18-4 run.' Flagler narrowed the lead to 14 with 6:07 left in the game, but the Tars recovered to once again take control of the game through the final buzzer.

Rollins used many of its reserves throughout the game, and the bench players combined to score 27.' Leading the charge off the bench for the Tars were Jessica Barker with three assists, Jean with eight points and four rebounds, Kirkwood with six points, and Teuma with six rebounds, one block, and one steal.

The Tars controlled the boards, winning the rebounding battle 48-33.' Rollins also outshot its opponent from the field (35.8% to 30.9%), the three point line (15.4% to 15.0%), and the free throw line (75.0% to 57.9%).

The Rollins College Thanksgiving Classic will begin on Friday, November 24 when the Tars play host to Lake Superior State at 2:00 p.m.' Rollins will come back the day later to play Michigan Tech on Saturday, November 25, and that game will also tip off at 2:00 p.m.
