ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (October 7, 2006) ' The
Eckerd men's soccer team, coming off a shocking 2-1 victory over #1
ranked Lynn on Wednesday, maintained its momentum and defeated its
second nationally ranked team in a row when they topped #18 Rollins
3-2 in double overtime at the Turley Athletic Complex on Saturday
night.' Rollins dropped to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in the Sunshine
State Conference, while Eckerd upped their records to 5-4-1 and
2-2-0 respectively.
Juan Kusnir gave the Tars a 1-0 lead at the 25:51 mark off an
assist by Chris Cerroni.' Tritons forward Luke Sheekey then took
the game into his hands with an unassisted goal in the 43rd minute
and a free kick score in the 69th minute.' In his first game after
a hamstring injury put him on the bench, Dennis Chin scored at the
78:52 mark off a cross from Cerroni on the right side.' That tied
the game at two, and neither team was able to score before the end
of regulation.' Wade Fisher scored the game-winner in the second
overtime period (104:52) from an assist by Joseph Ilett.
Rollins controlled the tempo of the match despite the result
going in Eckerd's favor.' The Tars attempted 28 shots compared to
just 12 for the Tritons, and they had eight corner kicks compared
to three for their opponents.
Rollins will look to get back on track on Friday, October 13 for
