WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 13, 2006) 'Senior
Chris Cerroni scored a penalty kick goal in the 86th minute to give
Rollins a dramatic 3-2 victory over Florida Tech on Friday in front
of a rowdy, standing room only crowd at Barker Family Stadium.
Cerroni had a hand in all of the Tars' scoring, totaling two
goals and an assist. Leslie Osei scored Rollins' first goal early
in the first half on an assist from Cerroni. The senior forward
then tallied his first goal with Tres Loch and Jon Gruenewald
notching assists, followed by the game winner in the final
minutes.
The victory improves Rollins to 11-3 overall and 5-2 in Sunshine
State Conference play while the Panthers fall to 4-8-2, 1-4-1.
Florida Tech struck first, stunning Rollins with an unassisted
goal by Edward Oyarce just 3:46 into the contest. Osei evened up
the score just 90 seconds later as he headed in a Cerroni corner
kick among a crowd in front of the net. Rollins put together an
attack in the 37th minute with Loch, Gruenewald and Cerroni
connecting on consecutive passes and Cerroni ending the play and
give the Tars a 2-1 halftime lead.
The Panthers equalized the score in the 53rd minute as Piers
Ockleford floated in a shot from the top of the penalty box. After
some very spirited back and forth play, the Tars began to attack in
the 86th minute only to have forward Christopher Chafin pulled to
the ground at the top of the penalty box. Cerroni took the PK for
the Tars and easily converted to put the hosts up 3-2 with under
five minutes reaming. Rollins then played keep-away and preserved
the one goal victory.
Rollins midfield and back line controlled play all night,
holding Tech to just five shots with the Tars getting of 12. Frazer
Siddall scored the win between the posts, playing all 90 minutes
and grabbing one save.
The Rollins men's soccer team will head to St. Augustine,
Florida for a match-up with Flagler College on Wednesday, October
18 at 7 p.m. The will then conclude their regular season slate on
